Texas state Rep. Jeff Leach (R) has become the latest lawmaker to fall victim to a fake name prank.
After the third-grade teacher spoke about the anti-trans bill to the Texas House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence on Wednesday, Leach called on other constituents whose names had been registered to comment.
“Is Connie Lingus here?” asked, as people giggled around the room.
“What is Anita Dickenmee? Or Holden, Holden Middick?” he added.
“Okay. Are there three people here?” Leach asked, seeming to know full well that he wasn’t there.
“Okay,” he added. “You got your moment. I hope you enjoy it.”
Leach took the joke in good spirit, telling Mediaite that he hopes to “meet Connie, Holden and Anita one day.”
Like the Virginia school board members in 2021, when Phil McCracken, Eileen Dover, Wayne Kuhr, Suk Mahdik, Ophelia McCaulk and Don Kedick all showed up.
