Because the 12-year-old was afraid of what was happening, he only approached his father to deliver food to the house, claiming that Yates was at work. Eventually, a family member saw Yates on Cell and contacted the father because the children were gone. And it wasn’t until Nov. 14 that the father called the Roman Forest Police Department, telling them that the two had been home alone without guardians for the past two months — “much of the time without access to food or medical supplies.” The couple is also not enrolled in school. The police department explains:

“The father has been informed that the mother of the child was seen in Mobile Alabama without the children and knew that she was home only because she was asked by her daughter to deliver food on a regular basis.”

She later noted that when the father found out the children were abandoned by their mother, he “flew right away from California where he was working.” And after an investigation by the RFPD, an arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 8 for Yates on two counts of abandonment and child endangerment with no intent to return.

However, law enforcement spent MONTHS looking for the woman. With the help of the US Marshals Gulf Coast Fugitive Violent Offender Task Force, the authorities were finally able to find the mother because she would post about the situation on her social media. This leads to tips and leads in the case of where to find Yates. Here the case becomes more chaotic. When the police arrested him, for ABC13Roman Forest Police Chief Stephen Carlisle said she seemed completely “unbothered” by the whole thing and seemed more focused on taking her picture:

“She was photographed in handcuffs with a smile and seemed unfazed by the charges against her for allegedly putting her own children in danger. I don’t know if she was playing a part or something, but she was, I think, playing for the camera. She wanted to have a smile . She wanted to look good. The arresting officer reportedly asked her about wearing lipstick before the photo was taken.

What the f**k?! It seems he has no remorse for his actions!

Yates is still listed as being in custody Mobile District Sheriff’s Office there and awaiting extradition back to Montgomery County, Texas. What about the children? RFPD previously noted that he was “safe with family members in Alabama.” My heart goes out to these two boys – and we’re glad they’re doing well now!
