Tesla Recalls 3,470 Model Y Vehicles Over Loose Bolts | Business News

Tesla Inc ( TSLA.O ) said it is recalling 3,470 2022 to 2023 Model Ys in the United States because the bolts securing the second-row seat frame may not have been securely tightened, according to a filing made public on Saturday.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says loose seat frame bolts can reduce the performance of the seat belt system, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Tesla told NHTSA it has identified five warranty claims since December that may be related to the situation. Tesla said it is not aware of any injuries or deaths related to the recall issue.

Tesla will check the bolts securing the driver-side frame of the second row and the rear passenger-side seat to the lower seat frame and if necessary tighten to specifications.

In December, Tesla suppliers implemented better process controls along with better training and inspections to ensure bolts are torqued to specifications, the automaker said.
