The home of Tsotsi star Moitheri (Terry) Pheto has come under fire following the outcome of a Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigation into Lotto funding.
Investigations revealed that Pheto’s house was built with funds linked to the embezzlement of National Lottery Commission (NLC) grant funds.

High court orders
The auction follows a preservation order granted by the South African High Court, Gauteng Division, in Pretoria, to the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) on 4 November 2022 to freeze Pheto’s Bryanston home.
Pheto’s spacious luxury home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, large open-plan dining room with family room, lounge, large roof garden with entertainment area and double garage, complete with staff quarters.
The SIU investigation revealed that the money used to buy the land on which the house was built came from a non-profit organization that received NLC funding to launch public campaigns and culturally sensitive medical intervention projects aimed at traditional circumcision practices.
After the preservation order was granted, Pheto’s legal representatives said they would not contest the order granted by the high court.

The SIU said Pheto’s home is one of nine luxury properties in Pretoria, Centurion, Hartbeespoort and Johannesburg, a BMW 420i and two sea basketball franchises on the East Rand with a combined value of approximately R25 million have been seized.
“The SIU, in terms of Proclamation R32 of 2020, was mandated by President Cyril Ramaphosa to investigate allegations of corruption and maladministration in the affairs of the NLC and the actions of NLC officials and recover financial losses suffered by the state or the NLC,” the organization said in a statement.
