INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Emma Raducanu beat Poland’s 20th seed Magda Linette 7-6(3) 6-2 on Saturday to reach the third round of Indian Wells and record her biggest win since winning the US Open in 2021.

The 20-year-old Englishman was 4-1 down in the first set hole but rallied from there, dictating points with a forehand to push Linette into the court.

He capped the victory with a forehand winner down the stretch to bring the fans on a warm and breezy day in the Southern California desert.

The victory marked Raducanu’s first win since September and a sign of hope that he may be able to overcome his various health problems of late.

He suffered an ankle injury ahead of January’s Australian Open, tonsillitis which forced him to withdraw before last week’s Austin Open and a wrist injury, which cut short his 2022 season and required attention from a physiotherapist on Saturday. .

“I would say that I feel more positive about my game today,” Raducanu told reporters.

“The first day I didn’t know what was going on. Today I felt pretty decent out there, especially with the conditions. It was very windy and I could handle it.

She will next face Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic or Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil.

Elsewhere, Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic scored a 7-6(1) 6-3 victory in her tournament debut against second seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus and Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic demolished her compatriot, 28th seed Marie Bouzkova, 6-1 6 – 1.

In the men’s team, Italian 11th seed Jannik Sinner defeated Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-3 7-6(2), Canadian eighth seed Felix Auger Aliassime won 7-6(5) 6-4 against Pedro Martinez and Jack Draper from Spain. won an all-England battle against 24th seed Dan Evans 6-4 6-2.
