An edgy mom. Farrah Abraham celebrated her daughter’s 14th birthday by taking her for her sixth piercing.
“HAPPY 14TH ANNIVERSARY! #piercingparty #snakebites & #ears! 6 piercings later your #snakebitepiercings match your snake 🎂,” Teenage Mother alum, 31, captioned the video of Sophia getting her lip pierced on Friday, February 23. “Can you eat cake?”
After posting the clip, the MTV personality’s followers took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the parenting choice.
“Y’all think this wild is normal behavior between a mother and a 14 year old… all the piercings on the face are too much at 14,” one user replied. Another replied, “Like you need 1 more reason not to be a mom this year.”
Abraham, for his part, defended his decision and applauded his opponents.
“I will never embarrass my daughter, I love and support Sophia 100 percent in who and what she wants to be,” he said. This isn’t the first time the reality star has come under fire for allowing her daughter to get a piercing. In February 2022, he revealed the reason why he let Sophia get her septum pierced.
“I’d rather be professional, cleaned up and clean, than my teenager sneaking in and doing it himself and getting infected,” Abraham told TMZ at the time. “For those who think it’s inappropriate that my son has had his nose done legally, I’m totally legal. We follow the law. I do my best as a parent to make sure he’s healthy and happy, and I cover those bases. So, congratulations Sophia. I wish her the best in her teenage years, and if she wants to get more piercings, more power to her.
Along with the piercing, the Teenage Mother AND special alum to Us Weekly in February 2021 he had been giving Sophia a talk about the birds and the bees since she was a teenager “through puberty”.
“Oh, God. The world is speeding me up. … When teenagers go through puberty, they have to learn, first of all, about pregnancy tests. So I have to tell them because I’m all about health. And I’m not about shame,” he said at the time.
Nebraska native rose to fame as one of the stars of 16 and Pregnant. During filming for the MTV reality series, Abraham’s partner at the time, Derek Underwood – who is also Sophia’s father – tragically died in a car accident before giving birth to their daughter in February 2009.
