Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) slammed his fellow colleague, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), after she made a cryptic post alluding that the “foreign government or powerful people” are gunning for her.
Over the weekend, Greene shared a post on X in which she suggested that she could be in danger following threats to reveal sex offenders associated with the sex trafficking investigation into the late, disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
“I am not suicidal and one of the happiest healthiest people you will meet,” she began her post. “With that said, if something happens to me, I ask you all to find out which foreign government or powerful people would take heinous actions to stop the information from coming out.”
She continued, “Not only about this issue, but because of the truth that I have been speaking.”
Greene wrapped up her message by adding, “The People understand what I’m saying.”
The Trump administration came under fire earlier this year after the Department of Justice announced in July that it would not be releasing more records about Epstein despite previously committing to do so.
Trump initially showed support for releasing the Epstein files, but later repeatedly claimed that the Epstein files are a “Democrat hoax.”
While Greene did not name which “foreign governments” she was referring to in her post, Cruz replied, writing, “Why do crazy people keep thinking ‘the Jews’ are trying to kill them?”
After facing backlash from X users, Cruz expanded on his comments.
“To all the bots saying she never mentioned the Jews, it says ‘find out which foreign government or powerful people would take heinous actions,’” Cruz wrote in a separate post. “She’s talking about Belgians? Argentinians? As she said, ‘the People understand.’ Yes, we do.”
“And no, Israel didn’t murder Charlie,” he added, referring to one of the many debunked conspiracy theories that circulated online following the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Greene has faced criticism in the past for her comments on anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.
Reps for Greene didn’t immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.
Cruz wasn’t the only right-wing political figure to blast Greene’s post.
“This is what happens when you destroy your family with an affair & you’re having a midlife crisis at 51 years old because nobody takes you seriously anymore,” Greene’s foe and staunch Trump loyalist, Laura Loomer, wrote in a post on X.
Loomer added: “Nobody is trying to kill you, @mtgreenee. Put the alcohol down. If you are suffering from alcoholism, there is help.”
Greene along with three other Republicans — Reps. Thomas Massie (Ky.), Lauren Boebert (Colo.) and Nancy Mace (S.C.) — have so far signed a discharge petition that would force a vote on the full release of the so-called Epstein case files.
In a separate X post on Saturday, Greene argued that her push to get the Epstein files released is “not about a pissing contest between political parties or political enemies.”
“The Epstein rape and pedophile network must be exposed,” she declared.
