Teachers renew calls to scrap double track system

The teachers, on the other hand, have expressed concern that the breaks given are not enough.

Speaking on Citi News, Thomas Musah, Secretary General of GNAT said after the release of the 2023 academic calendar, the government should go back to the traditional academic calendar.

“Teachers work 24/7. If we don’t go back to the old system, many teachers will be depressed. Some will begin to suffer from chronic diseases that the state cannot handle.

“Teachers who will train future leaders will be hurt. Attendance will be affected, teachers will not be able to deliver, and that means quality assurance among all will not be guaranteed. The level of output will be affected. Especially, with the double track system, it is terrible. Teachers teach from January to December”she cried.

The Ghana Education Service (GES), has released the 2023 academic calendar for all government schools.

GES in a statement dated February 8, 2023, ordered all regional directors in the country to ensure that principals for Primary and Second Cycle Schools in their regions must comply.

“The Regional Director with this letter is directed that the Principals of Primary and Second Cycle Schools in their respective regions pay attention to the provisions of the attached calendar and obey them to facilitate the smooth running of the school year,” the statement was read.

For dual track students at level 3 who resume school on January 10, 2023, GES notes that they will have a break between April 6 -16, 2023, and return on April 17, 2023.

The students will then take another break between June 2-8, 2023. They will resume on June 9 and stay at school until September 15, 2023, to end the academic year for the first semester.
