Tanzanian woman bust with over R200k worth of drugs in KZN



KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a 44-year-old Tanzanian national for possession of drugs worth more than R200 000.

It is understood officers from the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit received information about a Tanzanian woman who arrived at a block of flats on Vernon Road in Berea with drugs on Monday.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the woman brought the drugs into the country from Mozambique.

“It is reported that the drug was sent from Mozambique and will be distributed in the eThekwini region. The flat was identified and a sting operation was carried out. When police officers tried to enter the flat, they were met by resistance from a woman.

“The entry was gained by force and the police found 14 clear plastic packets containing heroin powder, weighing 1.3kg, and six clear packets of suspected cocaine powder, weighing 379g,” said Ngcobo.

The woman was arrested for drug possession and dealing.

“The recovered drugs are valued at R289 000. He appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on 7 March 2023.

Last month, a drug dealer carrying 6.5kg of dagga was arrested at a roadblock on Prince Albert Road in the Central Karoo.

In an effort to eradicate the entry of narcotics in Tanjung Barat, police officers from the Prince Albert Flying Squad set up roadblocks on the highway to stop and search the contents of passing vehicles.

During this operation, they saw a suspicious looking vehicle with a trailer attached. Police immediately pulled the vehicle over and searched both the main cabin and the trailer.

That’s when he found dagga worth about R520 000.

The driver – a 24-year-old man – was immediately arrested. He is expected to appear in the Prince Albert Magistrate’s Court.
