CEBU-Going slow on the layout of young weapons with unknown talent, Manila Southwoods (SW) on Thursday collected 133 points to see a 14-point overnight lead cut short by Eastridge halfway through the 74th Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub Men’s Championship.
Ryan Monsalve and Lanz Uy fired one-over-par 73s worth 35 points each, and Shinichi Suzuki fired a 34 that went with Masaichi Otake’s 29 as the base bet Carmona took a total of 274 to the third round also at Club Filipino in Danao, now only 12 ahead of Eastridge.
Jun Jun Plana, who poured in 38 points in the first half on Wednesday, fell short with 28, although Ronel Tagaan poured in 36 and Zach Villaroman poured in 35 to lead Eastridge.
“We didn’t get our target score today,” non-playing captain Thirdy EscaƱo said. “It could happen.”
Chris Remata had 34 and Edison Tabalin added 30 for Eastridge, which uses former young caddies as its core here with Carito Villaroman overseeing the team.
Southwoods will face Kristoffer Arevalo in the final two rounds and has two other mainstays of the Filipino team in Gab Manotoc and Cody Rolida.
Cebu Country Club (CC) also struggled through Club Filipino, behind by 18 now after the second round of 130 built around 36 Jacob Cajita and 35 from Jufil Sato. The hosts’ next two scores were 30 from Bayani Garcia and 29 from Jon Alvarez.
Carl Almario will be out for Cebu CC for the last 36 holes with the fourth round scheduled on the home court on Friday.
