Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed the wife and five children of the regent of Mutum Biu, Sani Muhammad.
Mutum Biu is at the Gasol Government headquarters Taraba State.
A senior Emirate Gasol official, Ibrahim Ya’u, told reporters about the incident in Jalingo, the country’s capital, on Saturday.
The police in the state also confirmed the killing to PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday afternoon.
“It has been confirmed by a reliable source that 7 out of 8 members of Emir M/biyu’s family have been killed by the attackers. One escaped from the forest,” said Usman Abdullahi, a police spokesman in the country.
Mr. Ya’u said that someone who was abducted together with the regent’s family managed to escape.
PREMIUM TIMES reports how the regent’s family was abducted in Jalingo after gunmen stormed the house of the king, a retired judge and a second class chief.
Mr. Ya’u said, the bodies of the family of traditional rulers were deposited in the regent’s palace in Mutumbiyu for Islamic burial, on Saturday.

Residents of the town told PREMIUM TIMES that the assailants were after the queen because of the cooperation of security agencies in the area as well as the state government sponsored vigilante group known as Taraba Marshall that tackles criminals in the area.
Traditional rulers are also known for asking residents of the area not to pay ransom to criminals who kidnap their loved ones.
