Suspect Escapes From Police Custody | Social

Police are on the hunt for Pius Anundoabil Ayoma, a private security officer who is said to have escaped from Manet Police Station in Accra, where he is being held pending his transfer to Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

The suspect was arraigned before an Accra High Court on charges of robbery and attempted murder of his former employer, and was remanded in prison following a plea from the prosecution.

But a source close to the matter told DAILY GUIDE that the accused fled from the Manet Police Station on Thursday, and has yet to be apprehended by the police.

Charge documents filed before the court show that Pius Anundoabil Ayoma, who lives on Spintex road in Accra, works with a private security company and is assigned to the couple who are the complainants in the case.

He served as a security guard for the couple until he was relieved of that position upon a complaint made by the couple to their supervisor (the accused person) for petty theft in their house.

He returned to the complainants’ home on January 21, 2020, where he assaulted the security guard on duty, tied his legs and hands with a rope and neck tie, and beat him several times with a gun.

He then gained access to the main house with a duplicate key that he already had, and forcibly broke into the bathroom where one of the complainants (her husband) was freshening up to go to church.

He then instructed her to transfer money from her phone to a mobile number, which the investigation later revealed was in her name. The complainant sent GH¢2,000 to the number, and the accused then assaulted her and tied her up in the room where he was keeping security.

The accused went ahead and ransacked the room and collected various items belonging to the couple, including two iPhones, a Dell laptop computer, a DSTV decoder, a Subwoofer, a 32-inch Samsung television, and a 55-inch Philip flat screen television.

Pius Anundoabil Ayoma, according to court documents, ordered the woman to order an Uber using her phone, which she did, and the accused delivered the stolen items to the vehicle with the help of the driver.

He then hid his wife who was returning from work and shot him after trying to save her husband, who was tied to a toilet seat.

The accused entered the Uber and ordered the driver at gunpoint to drive, but the accused during the trip ordered the Uber driver to stop the taxi for him, who transferred the loot.

The police at this point were informed about the activities of the accused, and they were tracked to Kassapreko in Accra, where they found him in a taxi.

But the accused pointed a gun at the police and managed to escape, leaving the loot behind.

He then fled to Fumbisi, in the Upper East Region, where he was arrested, but had opened fire on the police and injured several officers in the process.
