One thing we have learned from political history is that if the government wants to take on a group of strikers it must have the support of the public.

That is not the case with the current wave with the public generally supporting those who want a salary increase in line with inflation rather than what is being offered.

Krunch begins next week when teachers and nurses join the action that exists in the public sector.

Sky News had another poll last night showing that the public is more in favor of the strikers here than against them.

This is a very dangerous area for the Prime Minister and if he wants to stick to his hardline position, he should at least say it better. The danger is that Number 10 can be blamed for all the troubles that millions of people have to face.
