SuCasa Properties, a leading real estate company in Ghana, has created at least 2,000 positions for Ghanaian youth to support efforts to reduce unemployment in the country.
The company, on Friday, held a conference to train hundreds of Ghanaian youths on opportunities in the real estate value chain, while offering prospects to work as salesmen with Sucasa.
SuCasa Properties also aims to help overcome the housing deficit of approximately two million housing units in Ghana with modern townhouses of two, three and four bedrooms, which range from US$ 40,000 to US$ 80,000.
Affordable housing projects are located in East Legon Hills, Ayi Mensah, Pokuase, and Appolonia, with plans to extend the property offering to Kumasi and Takoradi.
Speaking at the event, the CEO of SuCasa Properties, Michael O’Grantson-Agyapong, said the conference was to identify the many opportunities in the real estate value chain and help Ghanaian youths follow.
He said: “This is a job creation opportunity given to the youth and through this scheme, we expect to create about 2,000 jobs every year for energetic and available youth who want to take advantage of the system.”
He said, with the right regulatory framework and Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the real estate sector will be a “game changer” in the Ghanaian economy.
The sector contributed 2.9 percent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2020, amounting to GHS11 billion (US$1.9 billion), employing more than 320,000 people.
Figures from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), show that the sector’s performance to GDP stands at 10.5 percent of the overall performance of real GDP growth for the period ending 2021.
Speaking about the potential of the sector, Mr. Awuku-Asare said: “If we open up the supply chain mechanism so that at every point there is someone who can implement it wisely and precisely, this project is strategically positioned to add to the government’s agenda to try to solve the problem of the unemployment situation. in the country.”
Samuel Amegayibor, the Executive Secretary, Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), commended the SuCasa initiative, which he said would complement various efforts to reduce unemployment in Ghana.
He said: “The real estate industry is huge, apart from clerical and professional services in the built environment, there are marketing and other opportunities in the value chain, which should be opened by the youth.”
Mr. Louis Yaw Afful, Group Executive Director, African Continental Free Trade Area Policy Network (APN), also called on the youth to build their capacity in the real estate value chain, which will create sustainable income earning opportunities for them.
He called on other sectors of the economy to use the conference which provides a platform to connect the skills and abilities of the youth to opportunities, with the reality that unemployment in Ghana will be drastically reduced.
He said: “There are many sectors in the economy and if everyone should use the approach of this conference and invite the youth, we will be able to align skills and it will be very good, and we will see unemployment decrease. .”
