Sterling Bank Plc. has renewed its kit sponsorship deal with Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin for the new season of the Nigerian Premier Football League. The renewal of the kit sponsorship was inaugurated at the 2022/23 jersey unveiling ceremony held recently at the Edo State Government House in Benin, Edo State.
The club has signed the biggest kit sponsorship partnership in the history of Nigerian club football by inking a record deal worth N50 million with Sterling Bank for the 2021/2022 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
Since the signing of the agreement, “Arsenal Benin” has gained promotion to the Nigerian Premier League – the highest level of Nigerian club football.
The newly signed deal will see the bank raise the contract value with the club to N75 million as the club competes for honors in the top flight this season.
The football relationship is also not good in the bank, as they are the champions of the 2022 edition of the Nigeria Bankers Game.
The bank’s Executive Director, Tunde Adeola, made the pledge, “Sterling is very grateful and honored to be part of Bendel Insurance’s return to football glory.”
Adeola said, “we will continue to support and sponsor Bendel Insurance as we did last year, we did this season and we look forward to this partnership.”
The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, who is the chairman of Bendel Insurance and Edo Queen football club, while thanking the bank for their support, said after the governor directed the board to reduce spending on the club, the board approached some private establishments for sponsorship.
Shaibu stated: “They brought N50 million last year. But they said we brought it in the name of our company, which we respect very much, and I also reminded them that they respect the name, we also respect the name of Bendel Insurance. I told them- those two important names come together. The implication is that he will do well. They said if we do well, they will improve, and they give us the option to refuse the first. Today, we have been promoted and they improved.
