Stakeholders harp on restructuring, credible elections | The Guardian Nigeria News

The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Lagos branch, in collaboration with some critical stakeholders, yesterday, stressed the need to restructure Nigeria to work for all, instead of the current system.

One of the stakeholders and legal practitioner, Mr. John Oguebunwa, who spoke during a pre-election symposium titled: “The role of various stakeholders in sustainable, efficient and effective governance,” organized by the organization before the general election, said . that Nigeria urgently needed to restructure, adding that the current system cannot withstand.

The lawyer also said that the quota system and its federal character are the main problems that threaten the existence of companies in the country.

Therefore, he called on the government at all levels to abide by the constitution by providing security and also prioritizing the welfare of citizens, which according to him is the main role of government.

Also speaking, a university lecturer, Mr. Olurotimi Adeleye, said Nigerians must play another role for sustainable and effective governance.

According to him, citizens have an obligation to ensure that they fulfill their constitutional, statutory, social, economic, moral, political, cultural and religious roles for effective and efficient governance.

He said the government had no right to choose which court orders to follow and which to throw out, saying the government should set an example.

In his welcome address, the Lagos Branch CLO Chairman, Joseph Enitan, charged law enforcement agents to provide adequate protection to voters and others during and after the election.

He said it was the responsibility of all Nigerians to ensure credible, free and fair elections.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIE) said it has done its part to sensitize citizens at the grassroots by educating them about elections.

Commissioner of LASIEC, Dr. Olayiwola Onasanya, who was represented by Mr. Ayobami Oguntola, noted that the current election is based on the open door policy.
