Sony Interactive Entertainment, the PlayStation-branded video game goliath, has filed a patent for a framework that allows users to transfer and use nonfungible tokens (NFT) across multiple gaming platforms.
Over the years, Sony’s interest in crypto has been proven by numerous partnerships and trademark registrations. Adding to this list, Sony filed a patent titled “NFT framework for transferring and using digital assets between gaming platforms.”

Sony’s NFT framework aims to integrate NFT into gameplay, where the technology can represent skins and other popular game functions. In the patent summary, the abstract describes the features in question:
“Responsive to determination, NFTs are provided to end-user entities so that digital assets can be used, through NFTs, in various computer simulations and/or on different computer simulation platforms.”
In addition, it adds that ownership of NFTs can be transferred to other end-user entities for their own use in various simulations and platforms. The diagram below details Sony’s use of NFTs in gameplay.

Once implemented, PlayStation 5 users will be able to experience NFT use cases through mainstream game titles. As of December 2022, the number of active users of the PlayStation Network worldwide is 112 million, which continues to grow every year.

To find out what goes into creating such a successful game, Cointelegraph recently interviewed former Age of Empires producer Peter Bergstrom.
“There are no black and white answers in game design,” said Bergstrom while highlighting that GameFi is about adding a new dimension of interesting gameplay to Web2 games.
According to him, gamers don’t care about the technology behind a good game. As a result, crypto entrepreneurs must integrate āblockchain, NFT, play and earn, AI [artificial intelligence]G5, or anything to make better games, and gamers will buy them.
