Some NPP big wigs orchestrated my dissolution so that the galamsey could continue – Prof. Frimpong-Boateng

Former Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng has revealed that his exit from the Ministry of Science and Technology is a big plan orchestrated by the government and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Prof. Boateng said that the allegation about the 500 missing excavators seized from people engaged in illegal mining activities in 2020 is not true and was made up by some people in government to damage his reputation in order to oust him from office.

He said there are people in the government who want him out because of his stance on illegal mining activities in the country.

Prof. Boateng announced that the initiation and actions of the military personnel assigned to arrest the illegal miners led to all the lies about him being responsible for the excavators that disappeared at that time.

“The true story is that at the beginning of Operation Vanguard, the soldiers were supposed to arrest the excavator, but they would go into the forest and remove the control board of the excavator and return to report, but when they left, the owner would come with a different control board and move the excavator away.

“So the soldiers reported that they had destroyed more than 700 excavators and so we chose people to go around and check, but when we went around, we found only 150 to 200 excavators, the rest had been moved.”

He further asserted that “there was an orchestration in the party and the government to get me out and when I left, the galamsey activities increased. Now it is happening, and we know people who are doing galamsey even in parties and also people in Jubilee House.

The whole ‘missing diggers’ controversy started in 2020 when Prof. Boateng, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation later said that many excavators seized from illegal miners have disappeared.

He later wrote a letter to the Police CID to investigate Horace Ekow Ewusi, then suspended the First Deputy Chairman of the ruling NPP, for his alleged involvement in the missing earth moving equipment.

Ekow Ewusi was contracted by the government at the time to transport excavators and other vehicles and equipment seized by the anti-illegal mining task force to designated areas for storage.
