Some gov’t officials at the presidency are involved in galamsey — Prof Frimpong Boateng

In an interview with state broadcaster GBC on the allegation of about 500 excavators missing from galamseyers in 2020, Prof Frimpong Boateng said it was made by some individuals in government to drive them away.

An excavator seized from an illegal miner was reported missing in February 2020, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the excavator.

Calls are made for the missing excavator to be tracked down and accounted for while the person responsible for the heavy equipment’s disappearance is arrested and prosecuted.

Since then, little or nothing has been heard of the matter.

Earlier, an audio recording appeared online with the voice of Ekow Ewusi and Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng in this recording is heard allegedly agreeing to the party’s request; green light to join the galamsey.

But Frimpong Boateng asked the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service to investigate the missing excavator.

He pointed out that dozens of excavators seized from illegal miners have disappeared from the district assembly where they were stored.

Displeased with the apparent silence since 2020, Frimpong Boateng said, “Let me tell you that I didn’t take the excavator for anything, they know the truth. Now it’s happening, we know who’s behind it and the party. people who are there, people in government including Jubilee House who do galamsey and so on, even now.

“There is an organized plan, even in the party and the government to expel me. Why is it that if I leave now everyone is in the forest?”

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his commitment to ending galamsey in the country.

He said that no government in the history of Ghana has embarked on galamsey war more strictly than his administration.
