The SA20 league will present six awards at the end of the inaugural campaign to reward “good performances from players” and more, organizers announced on Monday.
There have been some outstanding performances in the opening weeks of the T20 competition, with more expected as the league enters the playoff stages this week.
Faf du Plessis (369) of Joburg Super Kings and Heinrich Klaasen (363) of Durban’s Super Giants top the scorers’ list after centuries, while Anrich Nortje of Pretoria Capitals leads the wicket charts with 15 scalps.
The awards will include Player of the Season, Batter of the Season, Bowler of the Season, 2023 Rising Star, Spirit of Cricket team and Groundsman of the Season, all of which will be presented after Saturday’s final.
Player of the Season
The South African Cricket Association (SACA) MVP scoring system will be used to determine the winner of this award.
The scoring system takes into account several factors, including batting, bowling, fielding, captaincy, Player-of-the-Match awards and even being in the winning team.
It’s the turn of the season
This award is unlike any other regular batting award where the winner is usually the winner.
However, the winner will be determined by filtering the SACA MVP scoring system for batting performances including runs scored, team scoring percentage, strike rate and milestones achieved.
Bowler of the Season
As with the batting award, the bowling award will be determined by filtering the SACA MVP scoring system for bowling performances including wickets taken.
Top-order wickets count more, while runs conceded, milestones and economy rates will all be taken into account.
2023 Rising Star
Only players under the age of 25 on January 10, 2023 will be eligible for this award.
The winner will be the highest ranked player in the SACA MVP scoring system that meets the age criteria.
Cricket spirit
Betway SA20 match officials (match referees and referees) have scored each team on a game-to-game basis, taking into account the spirit of the game, respect for the opposition, respect for the referee and respect for the laws of the game.
The highest ranking team will be the winner of this award.
Groundsman of Winter
This award will be won by the groundsman with the highest score for field preparation.
Each ground has been scored on a game-to-game basis by the SA20 match referee on the quality of the field and outfield conditions, and is suitable for the T20 format.
