Chieftaincy Minister-designate Stephen Asamoah Boateng has said that the problem in Bawku in the Upper East Region is related to the maintenance of law and order.
Therefore, they are demanding the authorities to ensure that there is law and order.
Speaking to Komla Kluste TV3 after an investigation by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee, Monday February 20, he said “First of all, the current situation is to maintain law and order, which is not the government’s business, so the state authorities must maintain law and order. bring peace.
“There is a fundamental issue of authority and land issues and I said during the inspection that you have to jaw. Fortunately for me, I know some of them, most of them personally. I used to be in the local government so I know Nayiri, I know my Bawku area.
“This must be calm, we are a sovereign country, we cannot fight among ourselves, this is a difficult task, but I think we can do it. I asked many people, I also prayed to get the wisdom of direction, that’s what we need, I need a lot of wisdom .
Earlier, Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul also said that the conflict in Bawku is not about leadership, but about criminality.
He said he has asked the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to deal with the situation.
Speaking in Parliament about “What is happening now is not about the leader. It is criminality. The operatives are criminals.
“I have asked members of the armed forces to deal with people like pure criminals.
“The government has done what it can to ensure peace in Bawku. We have moved Bawku from 50 to 400 soldiers, so we are sending 500 military task forces to Bawku next week alone.
The Upper East Region Security Council (REGSEC) has warned Bawku residents not to engage in an exchange of fire with the Military.
REGSEC declared an emergency on Thursday, February 2, 2023 to review the security situation in Bawku.
After the meeting, a statement released said “REGSEC calls on the people of Bawku to remain calm as they can bring peace to Bawku.
“REGSEC has asked the factions to desist from their efforts to engage Miluray in fighting as it will be a disaster for civilians.”

The military in Bawku is accused of killing some residents.
It has been alleged by some individuals in Bawku that soldiers deployed in Operation Gongong to restore peace in the area killed innocent Kusasi youths and women in their homes and communities.
It was also alleged that military personnel had taken over Zoogin, a Kusasi community.
But the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) denied the allegations.
“GAF wishes to state unequivocally that the allegations are false and baseless,” it said in a statement.
It was further disclosed that information received from the National Bureau of Investigation by the GAF Gongong Operation Team earlier this week indicated that a passenger in a yellow KIA Grand Bird Bus with Registration Number US 3672-21 traveling from Accra to Missiga was attacked by unknown gunmen. The gunmen shot through the vehicle’s tire and engine compartment. The bus is now packed at Assylum Down, Bawku Divisional Police Station for investigation.
Also one KIA Rhino truck registration number US 7093-17 was hit and the truck driver, Alhassan Abdella aged 40, from the Gonja tribe sustained injuries on his left leg. He is currently being treated at Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.
Again, he added, on Wednesday 1 February 2023, gunshots were heard around Natinga Kidul in Bawku. The Patrol team rushed to the general area of the shooting where they arrested the suspect, Abdul Malik Haruna, aged 35 from the Mamprusi tribe. He was then handed over to Bawku Police Station for further investigation.
“It should also be noted that based on information from the Bawku Police on the hiding place of the suspects allegedly involved in the shooting incident in Bawku, the force conducted a cordon and search operation together with the Bawku Police in Pateleme Public Area.
“Three suspects, Fatau Alhassan Binda, 42, Abubakar Iddrisu, 44 and Alhassan Mustapha Binda, 33, all from the Dagomba tribe were arrested in a house in Pateleme. He was handed over to Bawku Police Station for further investigation,” the statement said.
