Jeunghun Wang, who is only six events into his DP World Tour return after completing his military days in South Korea, produced a brilliant birdie blitz on the back nine in the third round of the Singapore Classic on Saturday; Wang and Alejandro Del Rey shared the lead at 14 under

Jeunghun Wang produced an impressive birdie blitz on the back nine on Saturday to enter the final round of the Singapore Classic tied with Alejandro Del Rey at the top spot.

Wang is only six events into his DP World Tour return after completing his military service in South Korea, but has not taken three wins to get back to speed.

The 27-year-old moved to 34 after making one birdie and eight pars on the front nine on Saturday before reeling off five consecutive birdies from 12 to take a share of the lead.

And even though he bogeyed the 17th, Wang bounced back with a birdie to close to 14 under par.

Spaniard Del Rey, who played in the same group as Wang in round three, scored an eagle, seven birdies and three bogeys in his 66.

England’s Richard Mansell was one shot behind the co-leader after sending a perfect 65, while the leader of the first round Tom McKibbin, Nathan Kimsey, Sami Valimaki and Marcel Schneider were another stroke further back.

Wang was pleased with his performance, saying: “I felt really good today and the last two days.

“I changed my putter two weeks ago and it’s been working really well. I think that’s why I’m playing so well.

“I didn’t think about the birdie, I just kept rolling, aiming for the flag and it worked.

“I still can’t believe that I’m here. I’m very happy to play every event. I just try to be happy and when I feel bad or sad, I always think about my military service and then I feel better.

“I’m not thinking about winning now. I’m just going to play my own game tomorrow and hopefully I can.”

Mansell, who posted his lowest round of the day, said: “I think we’ve played some good things this week.

“We’re really trying to relax, I’ve been playing a lot of golf since the Heroes Cup, making all the pieces but haven’t played as well as I want to.

“So I’ve used more energy and stress in the last few weeks than I expected. We’ve tried to relax, with moisture and delay, so it’s better to focus on ourselves, make a good score and give ourselves a chance.”
