Police in Washington have arrested a man who tried to kidnap a barista at a drive-thru window on Monday.
Police in the city of Auburn announced Tuesday that they have arrested a suspect in an attempted kidnapping that was caught on video. They have not released the names of the accused, but police are thanking the public for helping them.

The incident happened before dawn on Monday. At 5:06 am local time, people in a Chevrolet Silverado Kab A pickup truck pulled up to a drive through window in Auburn. At first, everything seemed normal. Surveillance footage shows the barista handing the man some change from the transaction.
Then, suddenly, when the woman reached the window of the truck, the man lunges forward and grabs her arm with his left hand. Along with his right hand, he pulled on what police now say was a “rolled zip tie.” He tried to wrap his arms around her to pull her through the drive window to the truck.

Luckily, the barista – who was working alone – was able to pull it off. He slipped out of the man’s grip and turned back. Then, he dropped his clothes and ran away. In the future, the Auburn Police released the recording via Twitter. They are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. Authorities noted a tattoo on his arm that appeared to read “Chevrolet” in cursive letters.

The next day, the police found him. KIRO TV the report alleged the assailant was arrested at 11:15 am on Friday. Police also searched the man’s truck, and found evidence that may have been linked to the attempt. All of this happened thanks to “overwhelming support from the community,” as APD noted in a follow-up tweet:

According to the news outlet, the suspect’s identity has not been released. And the charges he faces were still unknown as of Wednesday. The police have also not determined exactly where the incident took place. So there is still something to reveal.
However, the arrest is a major development. PPE spokesperson Colby Crossley toward KIRO TV that the police admire the barista for fighting him:
“He’s in a vulnerable position because he usually controls the place himself in the morning when it’s dark outside. But this barista did a great job protecting himself and fighting this guy.
