Shene was announced as the club’s new stopper on Thursday, with the 18-year-old joining the Stellies from bottom of the division Ubuntu FC, who ply their trade in the ABC Motsepe Foundation League in the Western Cape.
The teenage goalkeeper, who is a former South African U-17 national team player, has moved to Stellenbosch where he will compete for a place in the starting line-up with Lee Langeveldt, Sage Stephens and Keegan Pool.
“The way Stellenbosch FC’s first team gives players a chance in the PSL is really a motivating factor, and I think I can be there one day because I know I have the potential to fulfill that dream,” said Ah Shene. .
“Seeing the style of play that Stellenbosch plays compared to other PSL teams is also encouraging. The team likes to move the ball and that’s how I like to play, because I like to build from the back.

In Stellenbosch, Shene will be reunited with his former goalkeeper coach at Ubuntu Pernell Mckop. The goalkeeper revealed that he was in constant communication with Mckop, who always gave him advice and said that the goalkeeper coach wanted him to join the Stellies.
“Before I joined, Coach P (Pernell Mckop) always messaged me, checked me and gave me advice. He always wanted me here and it improved me, and I know I can grow and develop my game further because he is a good coach, “he said.
“With that kind of support, I can only become a better player. When the coach supports you, you are more motivated and you don’t want to let him down, so I just want to give 100% for him and the club at all times.
Meanwhile, Stellenbosch will travel to Johannesburg to meet the Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
