Shamea Morton shared why her husband Gerald Mwangi doesn’t film often on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, and admitted he isn’t part of her “full-on storyline.” The star also revealed where she stands with her former best friend Porsha Williams.
Last season, Shamea saw the demise of her friendship with Porsha, who she’s known for many years. But in recent episodes, the costars hinted that they were tired of fighting. Meanwhile, fans have wondered why Shamea’s husband is rarely on the show.
On Rickey Smiley on the Spot, Shamea recalled when production came to her house for a “test shoot” with her husband and kids.
“[Production] got there. [Gerald] saw them cameras go up,” said Shamea, via @housewivesfromahousewife on Instagram. “They were like, ‘we’ll mic you next.’ We looked out the window. Gerald was pulling out the driveway.”
“And they were like, ‘well we’re already here. We might as well just go ahead and shoot you and the kids and your family and just see how it goes,’” she went on. “And they did. And I guess they felt like [we] are enough without him. So that’s how I got into the first season.”
She said Gerald would “pop in here and there” for season 1.
“But as far as full-on storyline of me and him, he’s like, ‘that ain’t [me].’ That’s not my man. No, he ain’t feeling this,” she added. “But thank God I was able to still do it.”
At one point, Shamea was asked if there have been talks about reconciling with Porsha.
“I wish I had the answer to that question,” she said, via @nochaser_tv on Instagram. “I just know that right now we are able to coexist, and I don’t know what the future holds, but that’s just where we are right now.”
Shamea then addressed if she feels pressure from producers to have her husband appear more on RHOA.
“I’m really proud of what my husband did this year on the show,” she said. “You haven’t really gotten into it yet because we’re just two episodes in, but he actually filmed a lot more than last year. … I was like, ‘Okay, babe, okay, you better show them.’”
“A lot of times, since it’s not his thing, he’ll shy away from it, and I never want to put that pressure on him because, again, I signed up for this. It’s Real Housewives of Atlanta, not Househusbands,” she said. “But you can’t tell that to a lot of the women because, well, they don’t have husbands. … I’m very happy about my life, my married life, and my home life, and I won’t do anything to jeopardize or mess that up.”
The star said she isn’t worried about keeping an eye on her single costars.
“They better watch me, because maybe they can take a page from my book,” she said. “What God has blessed, nobody can mess up, and I’ve been with this man for, like I said, a dozen years, since 2014. I’m not worried about it. If you can take him, you can have him, and vice versa … [He and I] know where we at.”
