PHILADELPHIA – A total of seven Southeastern Conference women’s soccer athletes were selected during the 2023 NWSL Draft, which was held Thursday night at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The seven selections mark the second-most in conference history, with the league also having seven selections in 2021 and a season-high eight during the 2015 event.
The SEC has had six or more picks in each of the last three NWSL drafts, for a total of 20 picks overall during that span. The league has seen 50 former women’s soccer athletes selected all-time, including at least one first-round pick in 7 of the 11 NWSL Drafts.
Alabama was just one of three teams to have three players selected in the draft, joining Duke and Florida State. The 2022 College Cup qualifier became the first SEC team to have three players selected since 2015 – only the third to have at least three players selected in the NWSL draft in conference history.
LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Vanderbilt each have one pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft.
