Seplat Energy said Tuesday that it has appointed Koosum Kalyan as its non-executive director with effect from February 28.
Ms Kalyan is a South African entrepreneur and economist whose career began at the Electricity Commission in Melbourne, Australia, the company said.
According to a statement issued by Nigeria’s largest energy company by market value, Ms Kalyan then joined Shell South Africa as an economist and became a member of Shell’s Global Scenario Planning Team after she started an expatriate posting to Shell International London for 9 years. .
“The scope of his work includes projects in Nigeria, Gabon, Mozambique, Tanzania, etc.
“Ms Kalyan helped the government to reform its energy policy and joined the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative during her tenure at Shell and also helped digitize government institutions,” he said.
The new appointee has served on the boards of several prestigious companies where he has expertly contributed his knowledge to the company’s progress and was recently appointed Chairman of Risk Control for South Africa.

Ms Kalyan holds a degree in Economics from the University of Durban Westville. He also completed the Senior Executive Management Program at the London Business School and the Leadership Management Program at the Shell Leadership Institute.
