MANILA, Philippines—The Senate hailed Filipino middleweight prospect Eumir Marcial for his third and fourth consecutive wins in the professional rankings.

The upper chamber adopted during the plenary session of the Senate Resolution No. 494 and 256, congratulating and commending Marcial, who totes a record of 4-0, with 2 knockouts.

“Indeed, Eumir, once again, showed the world the extraordinary skills and talents of Filipino athletes,” Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva said while sponsoring the resolution.

“He is an inspiration, not only to us Filipinos [at] fellow boxers, but for the thousands of athletes and millions of Filipino youth who are trying to achieve their dreams,” he said.

Marcial, 27, scored a second-round stoppage against Argentina’s Ricardo Villalba last month at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. His most recent victory came just four months after he won a unanimous decision over Steven Pichardo.

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, chairman of the Senate sports committee, also praised Marcial and assured his support for Filipino athletes.

“Her unwavering determination and dedication have set an incredible example for all of us, showing what can be achieved through hard work and perseverance,” Go said.

Marcial, who hails from Zamboanga City, was awarded the Philippine Senate Medal of Excellence in 2021 for winning the bronze medal in the men’s middleweight boxing division at the Tokyo Olympics.
