Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was treated for a concussion after falling at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington, DC, on Wednesday night.
“He is expected to remain in the hospital for observation and treatment for several days,” McConnell’s spokesman said Thursday, in the first official update on the senator’s condition.
McConnell’s health was previously in question after a serious fall in 2019 that required shoulder surgery and a week of recovery at home. The Senate leader, who overcame polio as a child, also underwent triple heart bypass surgery in 2003.
In late 2020, McConnell was photographed with a bruised and bandaged hand, however insisted on time that he was “just fine” and didn’t give any details about his condition.
