The Senate has confirmed the reappointment of Anthony Ojukwu as the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the confirmation followed a report by the Senate Committee on Justice, Human Rights and Legal Affairs during its plenary session on Wednesday.
NAN also reported that the report was presented by the Chairman of the committee, Opeyemi Bamidele.
Mr. Bamidele, in his presentation, said that when the nomination was aired, there were no reports against him.
He said, “Record checks and investigations by security agencies have not revealed any negative traces against him.”
In addition, the upper legislative chamber confirmed the appointment of Stanley Lawal as the Substantive President of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Customary Court of Appeal.
NAN reports that Mr. Lawal has been acting since October 2022.
According to the report, the appointment became necessary following the retirement of Abazi Abubakar at the mandatory retirement age of 65 years.

The committee said the candidate had met the constitutional requirements and that no criminal record had been found after an investigation by the relevant security agencies.
