Sen. Ted Cruz (TX-R) has proposed a resolution that would require vendors in the Capitol area to work with payment providers that accept bitcoin.
The proposal specifically mentions that restaurants, gift shops and vending machines in the Capitol Building must work with people who accept cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, which will allow the members of the United States parliament to buy continuous snacks with the money they want.
Sen. Ted Cruz has been an outspoken advocate for bitcoin before, said that“One of the reasons I believe in Bitcoin is because of decentralization. The left hates Bitcoin because they can’t control it.
Sen. Cruz is also looking at it benefits bitcoin mining is a potential boon for Texas, a state that has been leading the industry since China’s ban on bitcoin mining and the subsequent hash rate exodus in 2021.
While the move to acceptance in vendors can be perceived as inconsequential, if it passes, it could be the first major exposure for Capitol politicians to use BTC as a daily payment method. Bitcoin can be an abstract concept to those who have not seen its use in a payment setting, so a small resolution like this may change the perspective for politicians on the fence. The resolution must pass the House and Senate to take effect.
