Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) focused on changing marijuana laws in a series of Twitter posts Friday.
The legislator marked April 20 — also known as 4/20, the celebration of all things marijuana — by sending a message about marijuana reform to his 77,000 followers.
Fetterman began his post with a stony expression as he raised a green flag that said, “It’s 420 everywhere.”
“It’s 4:20 on 4/20. That’s the tweet,” he wrote.
Fetterman then hashed out plans for a more sensible pot policy.
“No more Reefer Madness,” he wrote as he asked the Drug Enforcement Administration to remove marijuana from the list of Schedule 1 drugs, a category that includes substances like methamphetamine and heroin.
The politician, who recently returned to Washington, DC, after treatment for depression, also recommended repealing marijuana convictions and implementing what he called “common sense at home”.
“More jobs. More justice. More freedom,” he tweeted, then added, “I always have and always will fight for legal weed & to end the racist Drug War.”
Medical marijuana use was given the green light in Pennsylvania in 2016, but recreational use is still illegal. The Keystone State’s Democratic majority hopes to vote on marijuana law reform this session, however.
Fetterman isn’t the only one on Capitol Hill trying to change drug laws.
Legislators in the House passed the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Disposal (MORE) Act a year ago.
The bill, which is awaiting a hearing in the Senate, would legalize marijuana, erase past pot records and impose a tax on sales.
