Sen. John Fetterman Discharged From Hospital

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) was discharged from a Washington, DC, hospital on Friday after being treated for dizziness, his office announced.

“In addition to the CT, CTA, and MRI tests that determined the stroke, his EEG test results came back normal, with no evidence of seizures,” Fetterman spokesman Joe Calvello said in a statement. “John looks forward to spending some time with his family and returning to the Senate on Monday.”

On Thursday, Fetterman underwent an MRI and other tests that confirmed he had not suffered a stroke. He remained hospitalized overnight and was monitored with an electroencephalogram (EEG) to detect seizures.

Days before the primary election last May, Fetterman suffered a near-fatal stroke from atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat condition. Doctors implanted a pacemaker device shortly after the stroke to help regulate the heart rate. The stroke left him with auditory processing problems, but his doctor said in October he recovered well.

“Like so many others, and so many men, I avoid going to the doctor, even though I know I’m not feeling well,” he said. “As a result, I almost died. I want to encourage others not to make the same mistake.

Calvello said preliminary tests Wednesday showed no evidence of a new stroke, but doctors should run further tests.
