Selena Gomez Shuts Down Body-Shaming Comments

He will not be shy. Selena Gomez apparently applauded again at the trolls criticizing the body after the 2023 Golden Globes.

“I’m a little bigger now because I like it during the holidays,” Ing Just Murder in the Building star, 30, said during Instagram Live on January 10.

“I mean, come on, right?” Gomez asked her date, her sister Gracie, 9.

“Yes,” said Gracie.

Star Rare Beauty apparently said, “But we do not care” as Miley Cyrus‘ the song “Do My Thang” started blasting in the car.

The sisters had a great night at the Golden Globes, where the former Disney Channel star was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series Musical or Comedy. Just Murder in the Building Friday for Best Musical or Comedy TV Show. Cost her, Martin Short and Steve Martin, also received individual nods. They lost to Abbott Elementary School and ABC sitcom stars in all categories.

Gomez wore a dark purple velvet Valentino dress from the label’s winter 2022 couture collection. The strapless gown features oversized purple fabric sleeves. She topped off her look with earrings and a ring from De Beers. Meanwhile, her sister wore a sparkling champagne colored skirt with matching shoes and handbag.

While she doesn’t let body-shamers stop her from having fun, the Texas native is honest about how hard it is to hear criticism about her appearance. While talking to his friend Raquelle Stevens on the Giving Back Generation podcast in September 2019, the founder of Rare Beauty explained that her weight often fluctuates due to lupus treatment.

“It’s a drug that I have to take for the rest of my life – it depends on the month, to be honest. So for me, I really noticed when people started attacking me,” he said at the time. “And the truth is, this is just my reality. I fluctuate. It depends on what’s going on in my life.”

Negative comments, in part, drove him off Instagram. “I felt like my thoughts and everything I said about a million other people in the world talking about good things and bad things. And I just thought, ‘Why me – I got nothing. Nobody gave me life.’ And I just freaked out, and I was done,” he said Everyday Women’s Clothing in 2021.

“I really don’t know what’s going on in pop culture, and that makes me really happy,” she added. “And it might not make everyone happy, but for me, it really saved my life.”
