The Sokoto State Police Command, in collaboration with the military, has rescued five kidnapped victims following an attack by suspected bandits along the Rabah–Maikujeru road in Rabah Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were reportedly travelling in a Canter vehicle loaded with charcoal when the attackers intercepted them on Thursday night.
Spokesman of the command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, in a statement, said the incident happened at about 8:45pm after armed bandits blocked the road and started shooting sporadically before abducting six persons.

According to the statement, upon receiving the distress call, police tactical teams alongside personnel from the military Forward Operating Base were deployed to the area.
It added that the security operatives engaged the bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to flee into a nearby forest.
Rufa’i said five of the six abducted persons were rescued unhurt while the Canter vehicle was also recovered during the operation.
He added that no casualty was recorded among the security personnel or the rescued victims.
The police spokesman said efforts were ongoing to locate the remaining victim, who reportedly escaped into the forest during the attack.
He further stated that security operatives had intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, while neighbouring police divisions had been placed on alert to prevent possible infiltration.
The command urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies to support efforts at tackling crime in the state.
