The Executive Director of the African Security Center said that the military is being helped to rediscover its role as defined by the Constitution.
“Under what law is the military allowed to initiate swoops? No, especially in internal criminal jurisprudence. Citizens are brutalized, they ask for voluntary information, how does it work? I think we need to help our military rediscover its role as stated by the Constitution,” said the analyst security.
He called on the military to issue an apology that was not befitting of the victims and the people of Ghana.
“I expect a statement from the military apologizing to the good people of Ghana for the excess,” he said.
The soldier, according to sources, hails from Taifa and was on his way to his home at Zongo-Laka in Ashaiman when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Imoro Sheriff who was found dead in a pool of blood near Amania Hotel in Ashaiman was buried on March 9.
Though he was carrying a laptop and other electronic gadgets, the attackers got rid of only his iPhone.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in a statement justified the brutality adding that the attack was not to avenge the death of the soldier but to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
GAF announced that the high command sanctioned it. The military during the swoop arrested 184 suspects, but all were later released by the military.
The police after a week of continuous intelligence led operation arrested the main suspects involved in the killing of Sheriff Imoro.
