Runner of the Week Boys
Da’Marcus Fleming, LSU
Fleming, registered a pair of NCAA-leading times last week at the Hurricane Invitational. He placed first in the 100m with a time of 10.13 (+2.0) to rank first nationally. He was also a member of the winning 4x100m relay team that finished first in 39.02. At that time he also led the nation.
Sunday Men’s Field Athlete
Tzuriel Pedigo, LSU
Pedigo, placed first in the javelin throw at the Hurricane Invitational with a mark of 74.54m/244-7. That ranks second in the nation and first in the SEC.
New people on Sunday
Jordan Turner, Kentucky
Turner, was runner-up in the long jump at the UCF Black & Gold Invite with 7.76m/25-5.50. The wind-assisted jump now ranks third in the NCAA and tied the UK freshman record, breaking Derrick Locke’s 2008 outdoor freshman record.
Female Runner of the Week
Alia Armstrong, LSU
Armstrong, recorded two NCAA-leading times last weekend at the Hurricane Invitational. In his first meet since his first meet of the indoor season, Armstrong took first in the 100mh with a time of 13.06 (+1.9). He then became part of the 4×100 relay team that ranked first among college students with a time of 44.02. The hurdles time and the 4×100 team time both ranked first in the state and the SEC.
Women’s Co-Field Athlete of the Week
Sophia Rivera, Missouri
Rivera, broke the school record and won the javelin throw at the Yellow Jacket Invitational with a mark of 57.67m/189-2. It’s a personal best for a Missouri senior, and he’s ranked No. 1 in the NCAA.
Anthaya Charlton, Kentucky
Charlton, recorded two victories in the long jump and the 100-meter dash with the best finishers in the competition at the UCF Black & Gold Invite. The wind-assisted jump of 6.61 meters bettered the UK freshman record that Sha’Keela Saunders broke with a jump of 21’1.25″ / 6.43 meters in 2014. Charlton also currently leads the NCAA in that category.
New women on Sunday
Sylvia Chelangat, South Carolina
Chelangat, earned a pair of golds and helped the Gamecocks take a combined 20 points between the two events at the Island Relays Bahamas. Chelangat ran the second fastest indoor 800m in Gamecock history (2:05.99) and is currently ranked first in the East Region and first in the NCAA. Later that day, he was part of the 4x800m relay squad that ran the fifth-fastest 4x800m relay in program history with a winning time of 8:56.91.
