The Los Angeles Rams have confirmed head coach Sean McVay is committed to coaching the team through 2023 after speculation that he plans to step down.

The youngest head coach in NFL history to win the Super Bowl has decided not to take a break from coaching after the Rams finished 5-12 in the worst season ever by the defending champion.

In a brief statement released on Friday, the Los Angeles Rams said: “Sean McVay told the team he would love to return next season.”

Rumors began to swirl about McVay’s future when he refused to commit to the Rams through 2023 at his end-of-season press conference on Monday, taking the unprecedented step of allowing assistant coaches to interview elsewhere.

The Rams’ innovative offensive mind has also often spoken of his desire to start a broadcasting career and has reportedly been offered $100m over five years to join the Amazon Prime NFL broadcast team in 2022.

“Getting the next few days, really being able to reflect and have a lot of conversations that will dictate and determine the best decision for me and my family,” McVay said Monday about when he knows his plans for next year.

Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris has had multiple interviews to become head coach again, including with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos.

Kliff Kingsbury was fired on Thursday as the Arizona Cardinals cleaned house, and the Rams lost offensive coordinator Liam Coen on Thursday. He returned to Kentucky as the Wildcats OC, a position he held through 2021 before jumping to the Rams.
