SDP deputy guber candidate dumps party, defects to APC in C/River | The Guardian Nigeria News

The Deputy Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Cross River, Daniel Obo, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obo was received in his hometown by the APC Chairman of Obubra Urban Ward, Mr. Daniel Okpa, in Obubra Council.

Obo, who is also the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Cross River Chapter, said he and his supporters defected because of the opportunities given to the youths by the state Governor, Ben Ayade.

While giving his support to the APC governorship candidate, Senator Bassey Otu, he added: “I represent the youths and we must stand firm for the youths of our beloved country. The APC in Cross River has agreed for the youths and the tickets were given to the youths.

“We have realized that the power lies in APC and that is why we took the decision to join the party and protect the youths.

“As of today, we have 18 youth council chairmen at the local government level who have defected with me to APC. Also, more than nine regional chairmen from SDP have defected with me to APC.

While welcoming Obo to the party, the Speaker of the Cross River House of Assembly, Mr. Eteng Jonah-Williams, said Obo’s defection was timely and well thought out.

Also speaking, the APC deputy governorship candidate, Peter Odey, assured Obo from his seat at the “table” that the party will win the governorship election in the state.

The representative of Boki State Constituency 2 in the Cross River House of Assembly, Hilary Bisong, said Obo’s defection has given the party an edge in the election in his area.

The lawmaker called on the youths of the country to join the ruling party creating opportunities for more youths to seek elective positions in the upcoming elections.
