School Placement: ‘We’re Working With Relevant Institutions To Stop Future Anomalies’ – PRO | Education

The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Kwesi Kwarteng, said the service is working with relevant institutions to end anomalies in the school placement system.

This statement is in line with the investigative documentary “School Placements for Sale” by The Fourth Estate which captures parents, guardians, and officials responsible for school placements, making deals to place wards in institutions of their choice.

The Fourth Estate established that the Minister of Education and the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) are the only ones given access and password to approve the placement of protocols into Category A senior secondary schools.

This is to prevent fraud, but The Fourth Estate found evidence that placements in Category A schools happened through a network of middlemen that included cleaners and security guards.

Meanwhile, eight suspects have been arrested for their role in the school sales documentary. They are Eric Aggrey, 36, innocent; Rachel Aryeetey, catering; Isaac Mensah, and Gilbert Afriyie Nkrumah, 23.

The others are Sebastian Appram, staff of the Fisheries Commission Theme Area Office; Bernard Kusi Agyemang, an operations manager with a logistics company; Eugenia Abigail Ahiable, administrator; and Daniel Opoku, foreman.

Reacting to a documentary on Atinka FM AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Kwesi Kwarteng, said the Ministry of Education is taking measures to curb demand in certain schools.

“We are introducing measures to give access to as many people as possible to get a school opportunity in the choice they like. We are trying to block the demand in certain schools.

“This is more about demand and supply; at the same time we are working with the relevant institutions to stop the anomalies in the school placement system,” added Kwesi Kwarteng.
