“Grayson is 16 years old, [and] there’s a lot of growth happening with him now, and it breaks my heart to know that my parents don’t know about it,” she said.
According to Savannah, she has struggled to help Grayson and Chloe “process” their parents behind bars.
“I try to stand strong and not break and be strong for them, so they feel comfortable enough to break down, and it’s difficult,” he admitted.
Just two weeks after Todd and Julie began their sentences, Savannah claims Chloe is struggling to understand why she’s in prison if she’s “not a bad person.”
“Chloe at 10 is trying to process her loss and the loss of her mother,” he said. “We were driving down the street, and Chloe was so angry at the situation and she just said, ‘Why? They’re not bad people, they’re not there.'”
And while Savannah told her sister she was “trying everything she could to get home” and encouraged her to pray, the boy remained frustrated.
“She looked at me with tears just rolled down her face and said, ‘Try it? I pray all the time. I pray for Mom and Dad to come home, I pray all day and guess what, Sassy, there’s nothing – it can’t be .’ And when a 10-year-old says that to you, how do you react? asked Savannah.
Although Savannah had similar thoughts, she told listeners that she was grateful to her mother for “finding the strength to deal with” her new prison situation.
Savannah then reveals how Todd and Julie have been doing behind bars.
“[My dad] working in the chapel, which is amazing, and I couldn’t be more proud of my father and the man,” said Savannah, per Page Six. “I heard all these people’s stories and how they affected their lives and encouraged change.”
According to Savannah, knowing that Todd has encouraged his friends to “know Jesus” has made him “a friend”.
“It lets me know that he’s okay. It’s not an ideal situation, but we can understand that this is not the end,” he said. “We talked to him, we emailed him, we got to see him, so I’m always grateful.”
Savannah was also thankful that Todd was able to email his family and wife.
“It made me very happy. I spoke to my father on the phone, and he just shed tears because he got permission to send an email to my mother,” he said. “Prince [is] work.”
And as for Julie, Savannah says she’s “awesome.”
“I think it’s crazy to say, ‘Well, she’s really nice,’ but it’s true,” she said, noting that Julie had “made friends” and was “busy”.
“He’s going to church, he’s working, he’s playing some Spades — and when I tell you he’s playing, he’s running his dog at everyone,” Savannah said.
