Senegal international Sadio Mane said it was “extremely great” to return to training with Bayern Munich on Sunday three months after suffering an injury that ultimately ruled him out of the World Cup.
The 30-year-old striker has given the German champions a much-needed boost a week ahead of their top-table clash with Union Berlin.
Union Berlin can move two points clear of Bayern if they beat rock-bottom Schalke on Sunday.
Bayern lost 3-2 against Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday.
Mane – who injured his right foot in November and needed surgery – was all smiles during training on Sunday.
“To have this feeling again is just wonderful,” he said.
Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann said on Friday that with a full week of training Mane could be included in the matchday squad.
Bayern could also welcome back another key member of the squad for team training in midweek.
Morocco international Noussair Mazraoui – who has been out for weeks after a medical examination revealed he was suffering from heart problems – is expected to return on Wednesday.
