Sacked SHS girls who care are lucky; they would have been publicly flogged elsewhere – Koku
Former Deputy Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho has said that the eight students who were fired for insulting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should thank the President for having the good heart to forgive.
He said the girls would be publicly flogged in other jurisdictions for insulting the president.
“Honestly, these girls are really lucky. In any other jurisdiction, they would have been publicly dumped. What nonsense!! You are joking by insulting the President & making it public? Ah! Ah! Ah! I guess we should thank President Akufo -Addo for having a good heart to forgive. Thanks Prez,” Mr. Anyidoho tweeted.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo intervened in the punishment meted out to eight girls from Chiana Senior Secondary School.
President Akufo-Addo made the intervention “after his attention was drawn”.
A press release issued by the Spokesperson for the Minister of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, on Friday, January 13, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES), as a result, to consider alternative disciplinary action instead of dismissal.
The eight girls were fired following an investigation into a video recorded in November 2022, which impeached the president.
The service, after an investigation, decided to remove eight girls from the school.
Since communicating the decision to the parents, opinions have been divided over the punishment.
Some parents have condemned the ward’s actions while the children themselves apologized in another video to the President.
But a large majority, including the Minority in Parliament, called for the recession of the decision by the GES.
GES referred Mr. Akufo-Addo’s intervention to the school’s Disciplinary Committee (DC) for action.
According to the Service, the punishment given to the students is based on the recommendation of the Committee.
“Therefore, the Management has sent the matter to the school’s Disciplinary Committee to explore alternative sanctions other than dismissal,” a statement issued by the Head of Public Relations of GES, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, said on January 13.
