Sky Sports has announced a new five-year rights deal to show South Africa’s T20 cricket league.
Starting on January 10, the SA20 league will run for four weeks and will include 33 matches involving six global franchises and will be broadcast worldwide. Sky Sports Cricket channel for the first time.
Members of England’s T20 World Cup winning squad including captain Jos Buttler and Sam Curran, who is currently the most valuable Indian Premier League player, will be among the 102 world-class players taking part.
Six teams will play each other twice in a round-robin round before the semi-finals and finals, live on Sky Sports.
The SA20 has the support of some of the world’s best-known T20 franchises, with several IPL stalwarts coming out to make a bigger international footprint.
“We are delighted to add SA20 to our portfolio of cricket rights,” Sky Sports director of cricket Bryan Henderson said.
“We believe it will be a fantastic competition with some of England’s best players taking part.”
SA20 is accepted Sky Sports is the new leading event in the T20 world cricket schedule, enabling access to both current, new and younger generations of cricket fans to watch some of the biggest players on the global stage.
Sky Sports will also broadcast the England men’s three one-day internationals which will take place in South Africa on January 27 and 29, and February 1.
