SA20 final postponed, Wanderers not even fit for garden cricket

Wanderers were not even fit for park cricket due to heavy rain in Johannesburg on Saturday, which caused the SA20 final to be postponed until Sunday’s reserve day, starting at 1.30pm.

More than 200 milliliters of rain has fallen in the past three days and SA20 Commissioner Graeme Smith said a weather consultant had advised heavy rain would fall on Saturday afternoon, prompting him to postpone the final to midday, hours before the 4.30pm start.

The weather forecast is better for Sunday evening, and the Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape would rather play a full 20-over game on Sunday than the abbreviated five-over lottery on Saturday evening.

Smith said The Warga he was relieved to be able to call early when he saw more rain in the Melrose area where the Wanderers are located.

“Our meteorologists have told us that the weather should be better on Sunday and it’s better to have a proper game tomorrow than to sit back and try to play today. I’m glad we made the right call and hopefully we can still make the final unforgettable,” Smith said.

All tickets will be valid for the reserve day, with gates opening at 10.30am.
