New Jamaican prodigy Rushawn Ewears has made headlines after landing a music deal with Sony Records in the UK.
Rushwan, whose version of “Beautiful Day” went viral on social media, has bagged an interesting deal and will be releasing his first track.
His new song will feature Jamaican Gospel singer Jermaine Edwards, who originally released the song (Beautiful Day) in 2014.
This is one of the hits from Edward’s album ‘Don’t Count Me Out’.
Dancehall Magazine is exclusively reporting that Rushawn and Jermaine have signed a Sony Music UK licensing agreement with all Jermaine and Rushawn-owned masters, according to Sony Music UK A&Rs Preye Crooks and Milo Saville.
A video of Rushawn singing Jamaican Gospel artist Jermaine Edwards’ 2014 song “Beautiful Day” was recorded in 2017 by a teacher at Top Hill Elementary School in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica.
Thanks to the viral remix of The Kiffness, Trinix and others in 2022, six years later, the video has already received millions of views and brought him to fame.
The platform also added that this is not a one-off show and that international music publishing companies will work with Edwards and his new protégé.

Full impact
Rushawn, now a student at BB Coke High School, claims that the viral song is his ticket out of poverty.
He explained that he never dreamed of achieving this level of success from a video.
“That day, after school, I had nothing, and I walked and sang. One of my teachers brought me in front (of) all the staff, and I sang the song, and it went viral,” he said, stating that he feels “very good” has contributed to his success.
Edwards also explained that the video was very interesting; he combed the choice with a fine tooth bombarding the optimal label to join forces with as this is his first major record deal.

He said: “There were so many different labels, so many people calling all over the world trying to get a license to remix the song. After meeting with different people, we decided to go with Sony. They are the best people at tab, so that’s how this deal happened,”
Rushawn’s alma mater is also receiving infrastructure development through this new partnership.
