The Chairman of the Labor Party in Rivers State, Dienye Pepple, on Tuesday said his party has decided to support the governorship candidate. People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the country.
Mr. Pepple, who briefed journalists in Port Harcourt, said the party endorsed “credible candidates” regardless of party affiliation in the state.
According to him, the candidate to be elected must be young, energetic and must come from a senatorial district that has not yet produced a governor.
“The LP in Rivers will choose a river candidate in the person of Sir Siminlalayl Joseph Fubara of the PDP from the South East Senatorial District of the state in the upcoming governorship poll.
“The Labor Party and its members are the defenders and ambassadors of the values that have distinguished them and the Obident Movement from all other parties”.
According to Mr. Pepple, LP governorship candidate Beatrice Itubo, resigned and adopted the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
“The party in the past few days in the state was shocked that an unknown person emerged and claimed to be our governorship candidate.
“This follows news on social media that the governorship candidate of the party, Mrs Beatrice Itubo, has resigned and adopted the APC candidate.

“So that we do not remain in the dark, the party, in line with the 23 LGA chairmen, has decided to support credible candidates regardless of party affiliation.
“Our Labor Party and its candidate so far – Mr. Peter Obi, made the strongest and most impressive representation of ‘people power’ unseen in recent Nigerian history,” Mr. Pepple said.
