Rihanna be real about her mother and her decision to appear on Super Bowl after a year-long hiatus!
On Sunday, fans watched as the 34-year-old singer performed her halftime show, revealing that she was pregnant & A$AP Rockythe second child. This marks the first time in nearly seven years that he has performed, and also after he turned down a half-hour show in 2018 in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick. As you can remember, the athlete took the knee during The The Star-Spangled Banner to protest against racial injustice and police brutality. So Rihanna refused to do the halftime show to support Colin, explained Vogue in 2019:
“I just can’t be a sellout. There are things in the organization that I don’t agree with, and I’m not going to go and serve them in any way.
So why the change of heart now? In a recent interview with Vogue UK published on Wednesday, Rihanna explained that she knows the impact of “representation” on a stage like the Super Bowl is important:
“There is still a lot of improvement to be done in my eyes, but it is strong to break the door, and have representation at a high, high and consistent level.”

He also noted that his performance was the second to “represent the Urban community globally” after Dr. Dr, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamarand Eminem shown in 2022:
“It’s powerful. It sends a very strong message.”
But there was another big factor in his decision to accept the offer. He is now “raising a young black man,” he says:
“Certainly, raising a young black person is one of the scariest responsibilities in life. You’re like, ‘Am I leaving my children behind? Is this the planet they’re going to live on?’ Everything really started to be different.
Being a mother, Rihanna also realized that she can “do anything” even after a few months postpartum:
“It’s knowing that you can do anything, even the craziest things, like, ‘I’m going to say yes to the Super Bowl in the middle of postpartum?’ What the hell was I thinking? But you’re geeked out on challenges like that because you know what you’re doing. You feel like ‘Nothing’s impossible.'”
However, there was a small detail that was not known at the time. At Fenty Beauty The founder had no idea he had a baby on board when he agreed to the Super Bowl title! He told the publication:
“It’s almost like an out-of-body experience. I haven’t been on stage in seven years. Seven years! From zero to the Super Bowl? That’s mental.”
However, nothing is going to stop Rihanna from putting on a show! Before the Super Bowl, he explained that he wanted to “have fun” on stage, especially since he hadn’t performed like this in years:
“I haven’t done this for a few minutes and I’m doing this for the people who love my music, the people who have supported me and brought me to this place throughout my career. And who miss me as a musician especially. I’m really just back in stage – a crazy stage that I’m going to do again – but I’m really doing this for my fans.
Of course, many of her fans are excited to see RiRi back on stage again!
As Rihanna has returned to performing, what does the long-awaited album mean? He indicated that he wants to release it “this year!” Rihanna announced:
“Like, honestly, it would be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos. And I need background music that goes with the visuals. I can’t shoot videos with me talking.
At umbrella The artist explained that he struggled to publish new music after Anti because “it’s really my best album” and “there’s this pressure I put on myself,” noting “if it’s not better than that, then it’s worthless.” However, Rihanna realized that “if I keep waiting until this feels right and perfect and better, maybe it will last forever and maybe it won’t come out and no, I’m not happy.”
We’re keeping our fingers crossed for another album soon!
Elsewhere in the interview, she opened up about what being a mother has been like for her so far, stating:
“My goodness, legendary. That’s all. You really don’t remember your previous life, which is the craziest thing. You really try to remember – and there are photos of my life before – but the feelings, the desires, the things you like, everything, you don’t know because you don’t even allow yourself to get it mentally. that’s far, because… Because it doesn’t matter.
However, it has (understandably) not been smooth sailing all the time. Like many celebrity parents, the Savage X Fenty the creator has dealt with the paparazzi not respecting his wishes and taking pictures of the baby boy when he and A$AP have not even shown it to the world. Rihanna remembers when she took the cover for Vogue UK with her son and saw the paps taking pictures of her:
“It’s something we don’t want to happen. We get to decide as parents when and how to do that. The end of the story. Throw me to the wolves. What do you want with me. But he had no say in the matter. We have protected him so far and you do not have permission to post or sell photos of my little boy. Let’s get out of here with that.
She recalls momma would “go straight into protective mode” at that point, noting:
“Like there’s no time to be angry. [Rocky and me] drove up to the trailer area and we sat in the car talking and what came out how we progressed. As a parent it just feels icky, like a violation. As we speak, we learn that he called and made an offer.
horrible.
She finally decided to take matters into her own hands and shared her son’s first look TikTok. You can ch-ch-check out her cover image (below):
