The Gordie Howe International Bridge is finally about to open for business
An opening celebration for the new $6.4-billion bridge connecting Windsor, Ont., and Detroit is set to happen today, weeks after the U.S. and Canada struck a deal on net revenue and just days after the details of that deal were made public.
The Gordie Howe International Bridge is due to open to traffic on Monday.
Today’s celebration comes after months of postponements and behind-the-scenes wrangling with U.S. officials, after President Donald Trump threatened to block the project in February unless Canada made concessions.
It also comes just days after the Trump administration threatened new tariffs on Canadian goods, prompting the Ministry of Infrastructure to announce that today’s celebration will not include U.S. officials.
