With diets often high in sugar and fat, increased alcohol consumption, and lack of sleep, there’s no doubt that the holiday season can take a toll on your skin. But don’t panic, because a detox program – even a non-drastic one – can help you achieve fresh, flawless skin in a matter of weeks.

It’s not essential for a post-holiday detox, but it can be a great way to reset for anyone feeling the effects of the excesses often associated with this time of year. As we already know, increased consumption of fat, sugar and alcohol in a short period of time can cause damage to the skin, as well as lack of exercise and sleep.

While some people may opt for a strict detox, consisting only of fruits, vegetables and juices, it is often enough to return to your pre-holiday habits to restore your skin’s glow.

The first step is to reduce your intake of fat, sugar and alcohol – something you probably already do, or will do, naturally. But to optimize the results, it can be recommended to add fruits and vegetables with antioxidant properties in the diet, or those that help eliminate toxins and stimulate digestion.

When it comes to vegetables, choose celery, artichokes, cabbage (in all forms), watercress, chicory, beets, broccoli and leeks. Remember that black radish, cooked or in supplement form, is a great partner to overcome indigestion, but also, more generally, to cleanse the body.

This is an excellent food for a post-holiday detox, as long as you respect the recommended dosage. As for fruit, oranges have the power to regulate digestion, and are obviously rich in vitamin C, an important ally for the skin. But kiwi is also perfect for this type of detox, as are red berries – although it is better to choose fruit that is in season.

Also, try drinking a glass of warm water (or room temperature water) with lemon in the morning to help detoxify your skin.

Beyond diet, it’s important to continue your regular beauty routine, and even up after the holidays. Late nights and tiredness cause many people to skip the makeup removal step at this time, increasing the risk of blemishes.

This risk is greater because end-of-year celebrations are synonymous with the appearance of more complicated makeup that can prevent the skin from breathing.

Removing make-up, cleansing the skin morning and night, with a chemical peel and a weekly detoxification mask, plus a daily moisturiser, is one of the important steps for a complete and comprehensive beauty routine. But certain beauty allies can also help you achieve fresh, radiant skin faster.

This is especially true of purifying treatments, but also of facial saunas and massage tools that will help eliminate signs of fatigue.

Another tip, which may already be part of your daily routine, can help your skin look its best. It is recommended to drink a lot of water for clear skin – some say 1.5 liters, but it depends on the color of urine (light yellow for good hydration).

Also, continuing some form of exercise is good for your skin, such as allowing it to breathe by reducing the amount of makeup you wear for a few days. In general, it is not too difficult to restore healthy and glowing skin after the holidays.
